Working in conjunction with USRowing, Kris Korzeniowski, and Saratoga Rowing Assoc (SRA), athletes will be trained in singles, doubles, pairs and on the ergometer. Daily practices will be supervised by Eric Catalano. In addition, visiting coaches and the Skidmore College exercise science department will contribute to the training and provide valuable insights on a regular basis. Cross-training will include hiking, biking, running and nordic skiing.
It is widely established that teaching a subject is a very effective way to learn. While training for Arion, athletes will be working as coaches for the Saratoga Rowing Association middle school program. As coaches, the Arion athletes will work with the SRA coaching staff and be included in professional development activities. It is a goal of the Arion program to develop coaches along the way as the athletes pursue their Olympic aspirations. Along the same lines, the Arion athletes will also be encouraged to work toward becoming USRowing officials. Because so many regattas are hosted by Saratoga Rowing Assoc. and the athletes will be involved in running these regattas, it will be a small step to achieve the necessary certifications to become USRowing officials and give back to the sport they love.
